Today EEMUA is presenting at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) pressure systems seminar, Quality and Competence in Pressure Systems, being held in Newcastle upon Tyne. The event is aimed at providing engineers with expert guidance and industry case studies on ensuring the required standards of quality and safety for both new and existing pressure assets.

In his presentation, Assuring Competence in the Pressure Systems Supply Chain, Peter Nutty will be talking about the new EEMUA online Mechanical Integrity Practitioner Certificate (MIPC®) training course. MIPC addresses the loss of primary containment of hazardous substances, a major cause of incidents and regulator interventions in the UK.

Over a 27-week period, the course provides a clear view of challenges, trends and opportunities from a mechanical integrity perspective, tailoring the learning to the industry sector and sites that the learner works on. MIPC has been designed around the learner experience, including tutor and mentor support, and a variety of online learning activities delivered via a corporate level blended learning platform.

The flexible online learning delivery and assessment, and robust certification means that learners do not have to be away from site for long periods in order to obtain relevant, industry accepted competence in a safety critical area, with appropriate evidence for stakeholders.

The course is designed to encourage a culture of continuous improvement. It will bring to focus the key changes in technologies, expectations and work practices – and make learners informed professionals who are in step with the latest learnings from industrial engineering. The next MIPC training starts in September 2020.

MIPC builds upon EEMUA’s existing activities in helping industry ensure the mechanical integrity of plant and equipment, particularly where there are hazardous substances present, which includes e-learning and classroom training, and good practice publications such as EEMUA 231, ‘The mechanical integrity of plant containing hazardous substances: A guide to periodic examination and testing’.
