EEMUA is honoured to have been given the chance again this year to take over the ‘Innovation Theatre’ at StocExpo on Tuesday 26 March, following on from our take over at last year’s event.

EEMUA was founded in 1950 as a means of enabling organisations working in different industries to share knowledge regarding common engineering technologies, allowing them to learn from each other’s experiences. It is still the case today that EEMUA brings together technical staff from a wide variety of markets, pooling knowledge from a wide variety of disciplines. We also pull in opinion and advice from a network of experts and enable our members to hear from leaders in the field. As a result, EEMUA guidance is identified as good practice across a range of industries by users and regulators across the globe.

Reflecting this, our well-known guide to above ground steel cylindrical storage tanks, EEMUA 159, has become a widely used benchmark for operating these assets. What many don’t know is that 2019 is its silver jubilee, and we will be celebrating 25 years of EEMUA 159 in a presentation by one of the authoring group. In contrast, there will be a presentation on how more recent advances have led to the prospect of a change in how storage tanks can be inspected, reducing the hazards to staff. The darker side of new technology, and the threats that interconnectivity opens up, are explored in a presentation on cyber security. The advances and threats are also elements that must be considered in the revision to our popular guidance on control rooms, EEMUA 201. The new edition, due in 2019, will be previewed, with an outline of the key changes.

EEMUA is focussed on the engineering aspects of its members businesses; the ownership and operation of technical engineering equipment. However, there are times when events outside what is usually considered as engineering have an effect on EEMUA’s core mission, and the final presentation outlines the thought processes and outputs from EEMUA’s consideration of two “non-engineering” issues; Brexit and sustainability. Both are likely to have effects on our Members’ businesses. But what should EEMUA’s role be?

As always, the sessions are expected to have plenty of input from the audience, and we look forward to seeing, and hearing, from many of the delegates attending StocExpo on 26 March.

In the evening of 26 March, we will be attending the Global Tank Storage Awards 2019 in Rotterdam where EEMUA is honoured to have been nominated in the Best Terminal Supplier category.
