Introduction

EEMUA's Mechanical Integrity Practitioner Certificate (MIPC(R)) training course is based on the guidance and good practice contained in EEMUA 177EEMUA 231, EEMUA 232 and HSE PSSR ACOP. The Induction element of this blended learning course starts from July 2021, with the first of the six Learning Cycles commencing in September 2021 and the Final Assessment completed in April 2022.

Developed by EEMUA members from a range of industry sectors, the MIPC training course is aimed at mechanical integrity practitioners working under UK legislation. As such, MIPC learning materials and assessments are aligned to the following UK competency levels: Engineering Technologist (PAS 525 Professional Engineering Competence Level), Incorporated Engineer (UK-SPEC), and Category 2 (UKAS RG2).

Learners should already be actively engaged in a mechanical integrity role such as Corrosion Engineer, Inspection Engineer, Integrity Engineer/Officer, Mechanical Integrity/Asset Integrity Engineer, Operational Safety Engineer/Craftsperson and Plant Inspector. They should have three to five years experience in this type of position and a relevant qualification.

Over a 27-week period, the MIPC training course will provide a clear view of challenges, trends and opportunities from a mechanical integrity perspective, tailoring the learning to the industry sector and sites that the Learner works on. MIPC has been designed around the Learner experience, including Tutor and Mentor support, and a variety of online learning activities delivered via a corporate level blended learning platform.

MIPC is designed to be flexible, fitting around busy professional lives. Learning is conducted online, at a time and place of the Learner’s choosing. The foundation is real work – activities that help Learners build their portfolio for submission. 

Supported

Human interaction and support are at the core of MIPC. There will be live online classes to go to (recorded, just in case one is missed) and one-to-one sessions with expert Tutors to clarify any of the topics covered. Most importantly, there will be a Mentor, nominated by the Learner or employer, to oversee a guided process of development. 

Practical

Everything in MIPC is practically oriented, connected to the situations and demands of Learners’ own work, based on the industry sector and the requirements of each company site or equivalent. The point of MIPC is to keep focusing on a Learner’s day-to-day work and seek improvement along the way.
 
Expectations of Learners
 
  • The Induction. Learning Cycles and Final Assessment will be held solely online. Therefore, for the best user experience, Learners will need access to a computer with a large screen and a broadband internet connection. 
  • The Learner will be expected to meet the course's entry requirements as well as nominate a suitable Mentor and preferably an Observer (both ideally from the Learner's own organisation) to participate in the course.
  • The Learner must abide by the Code of Conduct for the course, including relevant non-disclosure and non-compete commitments.
  • The Learner will need to be proficient in both written and spoken English. For students whose first language is not English, a minimum score of 6.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test is recommended.
  • A basic mathematical ability is assumed.
  • The Final Assessment will involve online proctoring either via EEMUA Executive staff or an approved online proctoring service.
Learners' time commitment

The Learner’s approximate time commitment over a 27-week period is estimated to be:
 
  • Induction: 2 hours
  • Six Learning Cycles, each taking four weeks, and including Live Classes: 102.5 hours
  • Portfolio Submission: 2.5 hours
  • Final Assessment: 3 hours 
Approximate Total: 110 hours / 15 days over 27 weeks or 4 hours per week

Certification
 

The EEMUA Mechanical Integrity Practitioner Certificate is valid for 5 years.
