Testing

It’s a common assumption that test and product standards contain everything required to ensure adequate performance of equipment. However, this is not always the case and EEMUA’s work helps fill vital gaps in this area.

Testing is carried out in a range of settings, such as production testing during manufacture, in-service testing, or testing after maintenance and repair. Effective testing can be helped by specialist guidance on subjects such as test temperatures and pressures, or the best choice for a test fluid. By using expert guidance it may also be possible in some circumstances to waive costly testing procedures, where other forms of integrity assurance can be relied on instead.

You may be interested in recent EEMUA Publication 231: ‘The mechanical integrity of plant containing hazardous substances - a guide to periodic examination and testing.’ This Publication has been developed and written by EEMUA and the Safety Assessment Federation (SAFed) in consultation with the Health and Safety Executive's Hazardous Installations Directorate, together with other interested stakeholders who use such plant, including operators, inspection bodies (including 'competent persons') and providers of specialist services to the process industries.

EEMUA 231 brings together existing good practice for periodic examination and testing of the mechanical integrity of plant containing hazardous substances. EEMUA 231 is endorsed by the HSE.
