Following extensive engagement with business groups, the UK Government has today announced that they have extended the deadline by which the UKCA mark rather than the CE mark will be needed to demonstrate compliance with product safety regulations from 1 January 2022 to 1 January 2023.

EEMUA welcomes this pragmatic approach. Its members, the users of engineering equipment, had raised concerns especially concerning the complex issues around interpretation of incorporation of spare parts, supply constraints, and the interpretation of regulations by UK national regulators.

However, this extra time must not be regarded as a "standstill" period. It is clear that much work remains to be done to ensure that national infrastructure can continue to operate safely, reliably, and within a clear set of regulations after the new deadline. We look forward to continuing constructive discussions.
