Introduction

This 50-minute course on Pressure Systems is positioned at the awareness/introductory level and is an optional precursor to working through EEMUA Publication 177 Guide to the UK Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (2000). As such, this e-learning module will help plant owners and operators understand how to apply the UK PSSR 2000 and in particular Regulations 2, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 13. Please note PSSR Schedule 2 is only covered to a limited extent in both EEMUA 177 and this e-learning. On completion of the desktop version, immediate certification is provided for the registered user that launched or purchased the course.

The content of this course has been approved for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) by the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE), a Professional Engineering Institution licensed by the Engineering Council in the UK. Completing this e-learning module, including the test at the end, is equivalent to 50 minutes of CPD.

The course covers:

  • PSSR Regulation 2 – Interpretations.

  • What is a Pressure system?

  • What is a Relevant fluid?

  • What is a Mobile system?

  • Users and Owners.

  • PSSR Regulation 7 – Safe operating limits (SOLs).

  • Different types of Pressure systems.

  • Determining Safe operating limits.

  • PSSR Regulation 8 – Written scheme of examination (WSE).

  • Types of Examination.

  • Frequency of Examinations.

  • Integrated pressure systems.

  • When to apply Regulation 8.

  • Pipeline safety.

  • Information to be included on a WSE.

  • Review of the WSE.

  • PSSR Regulation 9 – Examination in accordance with the WSE.

  • Incomplete Examination.

  • Postponement.

  • Written inspection report.

  • Complex Examinations.

  • Unexpected defects or failures.

  • Responsibilities.

  • PSSR Regulation 10 – Action in case of Imminent danger.

  • Giving rise to Imminent danger.

  • Duties.

  • Repairs / Modifications/ Change in operating conditions.

  • Actions required under Regulation 10.

  • PSSR Regulation 13 – Modification and repair.

  • Schedule 2 – Leased or hired Pressure systems.

  • Packaged / Skid-mounted units.

The content in the Pressure Systems e-learning is also relevant to those who draw on related EEMUA publications, such as: EEMUA 231 The mechanical integrity of plant containing hazardous substances - a guide to periodic examination and testing; EEMUA 188 Guide for establishing operating periods of safety valves, EEMUA 206 Risk based inspection - a guide to effective use of the RBI process, and EEMUA 208  Guide to life-cycle management of pressure relief systems.

The module will benefit anyone with questions on how to apply the PSSR 2000 in practice. It is especially relevant to chief engineers, engineers involved in the maintenance of in-house engineering standards, engineering consultants, engineering managers, graduate engineers, group technical authorities, plant operations managers, plant inspectors, and process safety managers.

Either completing (but not passing) or passing this e-learning course has no bearing on entry into the EEMUA 231 Mechanical Integrity Basics blended online training course, but you may choose to take this as a natural progression and is recommended. See the EEMUA Calendar for more details and the next available course.
