Introduction
The Hazards of Hydrogen in Industrial Applications e-learning module is positioned at the Awareness level and provides a concise introduction to the fundamental properties and behaviour of mainly gaseous hydrogen and the hazards associated with its use in industrial applications. The module introduces a range of hydrogen damage mechanisms and considers their relevance to components, materials and systems used for hydrogen applications. It can be taken as a standalone awareness course or as preparatory learning before engaging with EEMUA Publication 240 in greater detail or participating in related EEMUA mechnanical training. Please note though that the main focus of the learning is ambient hydrogen applications which are at lower temperatures than those covered in EEMUA 240.
The course covers:
-
Fundamental properties of gaseous hydrogen.
-
Behaviour of hydrogen in industrial applications.
-
Hazards associated with the industrial use of hydrogen.
-
Components and systems used for hydrogen applications.
-
Interaction of hydrogen with engineering materials.
-
Introduction to hydrogen damage mechanisms.
-
Materials selection and equipment integrity.
-
Maintenance and inspection considerations.
-
Factors associated with high temperature hydrogen attack.
The content in The Hazards of Hydrogen in Industrial Applications e-learning module is aligned with:
-
EEMUA 240 – Factors to consider when managing high temperature hydrogen attack on petroleum and chemical facilities.
The module will benefit anyone involved in the design, operation, inspection or maintenance of components and systems used for hydrogen applications. It is aimed primarily at engineers, operators, maintenance and inspection personnel, and project managers who require an introductory understanding of hydrogen properties, behaviour and damage mechanisms.
Either completing — but not passing — or passing this e-learning course has no bearing on entry into any other EEMUA training course. However, EEMUA strongly recommends that The Hazards of Hydrogen in Industrial Applications e-learning and Hydrogen Production, Storage, and Distribution e-learning are both taken and passed before registering for the EEMUA Hydrogen Damage Mechanisms Basics training course. See the EEMUA Calendar for more details and the next available course.
This e-learning course is best viewed on a desktop computer using the latest version of Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome and with a reliable broadband internet connection. A mobile app version for EEMUA Corporate Members, providing both online and offline options for taking the course, is available for Android and iOS devices. Access details are provided by email upon registration for the course.
Note: If you need to save or print your e-learning certificate, please remember to do so while you are still in the course after completing the test.
