Presentation title: The other ‘half’ of Ex safety: non-electrical equipment, assessment, inspection, and flange integrity.
Presentation abstract/summary: The non-electrical chapter has seen some significant changes, bringing it more in line with the latest non-electrical standards ISO 80079-36 and ISO 800079-37. This session will give an update on the revised non-electrical chapter covering:
• Minimising loss of containment through proper flange management and joint integrity techniques.
• Non-Electrical equipment conformity requirements and ensuring suitability for use in hazardous areas.
• Carrying out ignition hazard assessments on Non-Electrical equipment.
• Changes to the Non-Electrical equipment standards including equipment marking.
• Introducing the Non-Electrical inspection tables. How these can be used assist practitioners to ensure equipment continues to be suitable for use in hazardous areas.

Bio: Stuart began his career within the Petrochemical industry as a mechanical craft apprentice then attended university to gain a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering. After managing quality assurance of petrochemical assets including flange management activities onsite for multiple shutdowns, Stuart has then focused on rotating equipment install , inspection and maintenance. With over a decade of experience working within hazardous areas he has progressed to become a Chartered Engineer with the IMechE. Stuart has now changed his role to become a Commercial Trainer with Forth Valley College where he trains and assesses multiple courses including CompEx Ex11 (Mechanical) and Ex14 (Responsible Persons). Through this role Stuart has worked with CompEx and EEMUA to advise on updates to the mechanical courses and guidance documentation.
