Presentation abstract/summary: This session introduces the fundamental mechanisms driving internal corrosion in process systems, including key influencing factors such as fluid composition, temperature, and flow. It will provide a clear foundation for understanding degradation processes and how they impact asset integrity and performance.
Biography: Jacko Aerts recently retired after a 40-year career at DSM, later dsm-firmenich. Managing equipment integrity being threatened by corrosion was the common thread in his various functions over the years. He specialises in the practical application of materials and corrosion expertise to chemical and process plants, supporting asset life time extension and integrity management. Jacko brings extensive experience in translating corrosion and materials knowledge into effective, real-world solutions to enhance reliability, safety, and operational performance.
Jacko continues to teach corrosion at Hogeschool Utrecht, where he is course lead for the Corrosion Specialist course. He is also chairman of the Studiekern Corrosie, an active Dutch-Flemish corrosion knowledge exchange group.
