Introduction
The EEMUA 159 TankBasics training course is built on the guidance and good practices outlined in EEMUA Publication 159 – Above Ground Flat Bottomed Storage Tanks: A Guide to Inspection, Maintenance and Repair. A printed copy of EEMUA 159 is included as part of the course materials.
This course provides participants with a foundational understanding of various storage tank designs and the essential principles behind their inspection, assessment, operation, maintenance, and repair—without delving into complex calculations.
EEMUA 159 TankBasics is aligned with the EEMUA Basic Application competency level. This places it above the Awareness level but below Practitioner. As such, EEMUA strongly recommends that learners first complete the EEMUA 159 Storage Tanks Awareness-level e-learning course before enrolling. Participants should also be currently working in a storage tank-related role, possess at least one year of relevant experience, and hold a suitable qualification.
The course begins with a two-hour induction, available from 25 August 2025, upon registration. Training is delivered through five sequential Learning Cycles, scheduled to run from October to November 2025, with a break week between Cycles 1 and 2.
Each Learning Cycle requires approximately four hours of study time per week, and the course concludes with a final exam in November 2025.
Successful completion of the course, including the final assessment, is equivalent to 23 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
