EEMUA has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, a voluntary commitment to actively support the UK Armed Forces community and recognise the value of serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.

Signing the Covenant represents a pledge to those who serve or have served in the UK Armed Forces, and their families, that they will be treated fairly.

EEMUA’s support as part of the pledge includes:

- Making available the material developed for university students pertaining to recruitment available to all who sign up to the EEMUA portal as it can aid service personnel in the transition to civilian life.

- Offering discounts on our training and events to serving members of the UK Armed Forces who may be working through to transition.

- Promoting opportunities at EEMUA Member companies via a dedicated portal on the EEMUA website.

- Supporting EEMUA staff who are reservists.

- During recruitment, regarding the experience and military certifications obtained with equal weight to those obtained in civilian employment. If terms are unfamiliar, we will identify them, not discount them.

The Covenant was signed by Matthew Cleaver, Chair of the EEMUA Council, at the Council meeting held in Knutsford on 13 November. Speaking at the signing, Matt said: “The armed forces have long been recognised as being committed to high engineering standards and the development of its engineers. EEMUA is proud to join thousands of organisations across the UK in pledging to ensure that serving and ex-serving personnel and their families are not disadvantaged in their everyday lives.”

EEMUA’s Chief Executive Dr Stefan Kukula was at the signing and commented: “This was an initiative proposed from the Membership at our last Council Meeting, and I feel immensely proud that we have been able to respond in such a positive way.”
